BACKGROUND: In the Iranian context, no 360-degree evaluation tool has been developed to assess the performance of prehospital medical emergency students in clinical settings. This article describes the development of a 360-degree evaluation tool and presents its first psychometric evaluation. METHODS: There were 2 steps in this study: step 1 involved developing the instrument (i.e., generating the items) and step 2 constituted the psychometric evaluation of the instrument. We performed exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and also evaluated the instrument's face, content, and convergent validity and reliability. RESULTS: The instrument contains 55 items across 6 domains, including leadership, management, and teamwork (19 items), consciousness and responsiveness (14 items), clinical and interpersonal communication skills (8 items), integrity (7 items), knowledge and accountability (4 items), and loyalty and transparency (3 items). The instrument was confirmed to be a valid measure, as the 6 domains had eigenvalues over Kaiser's criterion of 1 and in combination explained 60.1% of the variance (Bartlett's test of sphericity [1,485]=19,867.99, P<0.01). Furthermore, this study provided evidence for the instrument's convergent validity and internal consistency (α=0.98), suggesting its suitability for assessing student performance. CONCLUSION: We found good evidence for the validity and reliability of the instrument. Our instrument can be used to make future evaluations of student performance in the clinical setting more structured, transparent, informative, and comparable.

BACKGROUND: A condition-specific instrument is necessary to measure the health-related quality of life among those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the most common chronic endocrinopathy among women. The first instrument was developed in 1988, followed by several revisions. However, further recommendations from all versions include additional application and measurement among different cultural populations of women with PCOS and psychometric testing based on use among larger samples of women with PCOS. Thus, the purpose of this study was to explore the factor structure of the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Questionnaire (PCOSQ-50) using an international cross-sectional survey data from women with PCOS aged 18-42 years. METHODS: Using data from the largest known international cross-sectional study of women with PCOS aged 18-42 years (n = 935) to date, exploratory factor and confirmatory analyses were conducted for the PCOSQ-50, followed by factor labeling using a thematic analysis approach. RESULTS: Respondents were 31.0 ± 5.8 years of age, mostly White (72%), well-educated (56% had a college degree), married (69%), and employed full-time (65%). Three-quarters (74%) of the sample had one or more chronic conditions in addition to PCOS. Approximately 20% of the respondents originated from countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, etc. The PCOSQ-50 demonstrated good reliability but may be best described using a 7-factor model. The 7-factor model revealed goodness-of-fit. Thematic analysis suggested the following labels of those seven factors: hirsutism, fertility, isolation/trepidation, sexual function, self-esteem, emotional, and obesity. CONCLUSION: More research is needed to adapt the current PCOSQ-50, as well as to create an age-appropriate PCOS-specific HRQoL instrument for peri-postmenopausal women with PCOS.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to devise a valid measurement for assessing clinical students' perceptions of teaching practices. METHODS: A new tool was developed based on a meta-analysis encompassing effective clinical teaching-learning factors. Seventy-nine items were generated using a frequency (never to always) scale. The tool was applied to the University of New South Wales year 2, 3, and 6 medical students. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (exploratory factor analysis [EFA] and confirmatory factor analysis [CFA], respectively) were conducted to establish the tool's construct validity and goodness of fit, and Cronbach's α was used for reliability. RESULTS: In total, 352 students (44.2%) completed the questionnaire. The EFA identified student-centered learning, problem-solving learning, self-directed learning, and visual technology (reliability, 0.77 to 0.89). CFA showed acceptable goodness of fit (chi-square P<0.01, comparative fit index=0.930 and Tucker-Lewis index=0.917, root mean square error of approximation=0.069, standardized root mean square residual=0.06). CONCLUSION: The established tool­Student Ratings in Clinical Teaching (STRICT)­is a valid and reliable tool that demonstrates how students perceive clinical teaching efficacy. STRICT measures the frequency of teaching practices to mitigate the biases of acquiescence and social desirability. Clinical teachers may use the tool to adapt their teaching practices with more active learning activities and to utilize visual technology to facilitate clinical learning efficacy. Clinical educators may apply STRICT to assess how these teaching practices are implemented in current clinical settings.

AIM: To describe psychometric validation of the newly developed Advanced Practice Nurse Task Questionnaire. DESIGN: Cross-sectional quantitative study. METHODS: The development of the questionnaire followed an adapted version of the seven steps described in the guide by the Association for Medical Education in Europe. A nationwide online survey tested the construct and structural validity and internal consistency using an exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient and a Kruskal-Wallis test to compare the hypotheses. RESULTS: We received 222 questionnaires between January and September 2020. The factor analysis produced a seven-factor solution as suggested in Hamric's model. However, not all item loadings aligned with the framework's competencies. Cronbach's alpha of factors ranged between .795 and .879. The analysis confirmed the construct validity of the Advanced Practice Nurse Task Questionnaire. The tool was able to discriminate the competencies of guidance and coaching, direct clinical practice and leadership across the three advanced practice nurse roles clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner or blended role. CONCLUSION: A precise assessment of advanced practice nurse tasks is crucial in clinical practice and in research as it may be a basis for further refinement, implementation and evaluation of roles. IMPACT: The Advanced Practice Nurse Task Questionnaire is the first valid tool to assess tasks according to Hamric's model of competencies independently of the role or the setting. Additionally, it distinguishes the most common advanced practice nurse roles according to the degree of tasks in direct clinical practice and leadership. The tool may be applied in various countries, independent of the degree of implementation and understanding of advanced nursing practice. REPORTING METHOD: The STARD 2015 guideline was used to report the study. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: No patient or public contribution.

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the validity of student feedback derived from Medicine Student Experience Questionnaire (MedSEQ), as well as the predictors of students' satisfaction in the Medicine program. METHODS: Data from MedSEQ applying to the University of New South Wales Medicine program in 2017, 2019, and 2021 were analyzed. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Cronbach's α were used to assess the construct validity and reliability of MedSEQ respectively. Hierarchical multiple linear regressions were used to identify the factors that most impact students' overall satisfaction with the program. RESULTS: A total of 1,719 students (34.50%) responded to MedSEQ. CFA showed good fit indices (root mean square error of approximation=0.051; comparative fit index=0.939; chi-square/degrees of freedom=6.429). All factors yielded good (α>0.7) or very good (α>0.8) levels of reliability, except the "online resources" factor, which had acceptable reliability (α=0.687). A multiple linear regression model with only demographic characteristics explained 3.8% of the variance in students' overall satisfaction, whereas the model adding 8 domains from MedSEQ explained 40%, indicating that 36.2% of the variance was attributable to students' experience across the 8 domains. Three domains had the strongest impact on overall satisfaction: "being cared for," "satisfaction with teaching," and "satisfaction with assessment" (ß=0.327, 0.148, 0.148, respectively; all with P<0.001). CONCLUSION: MedSEQ has good construct validity and high reliability, reflecting students' satisfaction with the Medicine program. Key factors impacting students' satisfaction are the perception of being cared for, quality teaching irrespective of the mode of delivery and fair assessment tasks which enhance learning.

la alfabetización en salud mental (ASM) se define como el conocimiento y las creencias sobre los trastornos mentales que ayudan a su reconocimiento, manejo y prevención. Se buscó traducir, adaptar y validar el instrumento canadiense Test Mental Health & High School Curriculum Guide (TMHHSCG) en estudiantes de secundaria y universitarios chilenos. Materiales y métodos: estudio de diseño instrumental en adolescentes (n = 454) y jóvenes (n = 434). Se llevó a cabo un proceso de adaptación compuesto por traducción y retrotraducción, y entrevistas cognitivas y de validación a través de análisis factorial para la validez de criterio y de constructo, análisis de validez convergente y divergente y análisis de invarianza factorial. Resultados: las dimensiones del TMHHSCGCL que conforman la ASM (conocimiento sobre trastornos mentales y salud mental, estigma hacia las personas con trastorno mental y búsqueda de ayuda) cumplieron con el requisito de un factor superior o igual 0.3. Hubo niveles de correlación moderada, positiva y significativa entre las dimensiones del test y entre este y las tres escalas utilizadas para probar la validez de criterio, tuvo buena consistencia interna y validez de constructo, convergente y discriminante. El análisis de invarianza de medición comparó modelos de manera progresiva y mostró una buena invarianza factorial. Conclusión: el TMHHSCGCL muestra adecuadas propiedades psicométricas que incorpora todos los componentes de la ASM. Ello permitirá medir el nivel de ASM para desarrollar intervenciones de prevención y promoción en salud mental en estudiantes de educación secundaria y universitaria.


Mental Health Literacy (mhl) is defined as knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders that aid in their recognition, management and prevention. We sought to translate, adapt and validate the Canadian instrument Test Mental Health & High School Curriculum Guide (tmhhscg) in Chilean high school and university students. Materials and methods: Instrumental design study in adolescents (n = 454) and young adults (n = 434). An adaptation process consisting of translation and back-translation, and cognitive and validation interviews was carried out by means of factor analysis for criterion and construct validity, convergent and divergent validity analysis, and factorial invariance analysis. Results: The dimensions of the tmhhscg-cl that compose the mhl (knowledge about mental disorders and mental health, stigma towards people with mental disorders, and help-seeking) met the requirement of a factor greater than or equal to 0.3. There were moderate, positive and significant levels of correlation between the test dimensions and between the test and the three scales used to test criterion validity, had good internal consistency and construct, convergent and discriminant validity. The measurement invariance analysis compared the models progressively and showed good factorial invariance. Conclusion: The tmhhscg-cl shows adequate psychometric properties incorporating all the components of mhl. This will allow measuring the level of mhl, in order to develop prevention and promotion interventions in mental health in high school and university students.

Materiais e métodos: estudo de concepção instrumental em adolescentes (n = 454) e jovens adultos (n = 434). Foi realizado um processo de adapta-ção que consiste na tradução e retrotradução, entrevistas cognitivas e validação através da análise de fatores para critérios e construção de validade, análise de validade convergente e divergente, e análise de invariância fatorial. Resultados: as dimensões tmhhscg-cl que compreendem o asm (conhecimento sobre perturbações mentais e saúde mental, estigma para pessoas com perturbações mentais, e procura de ajuda) cumpriram a exigência de um fator maior ou igual a 0,3. Havia níveis moderados, positivos e significativos de correlação entre as dimensões do teste e entre o teste e as três escalas utilizadas para testar a validade dos critérios, boa consistência interna e validade construtiva, convergente e discrimi-nante. A análise da invariância das medições comparou progressivamente os modelos e mostrou uma boa invariância fatorial. Conclusão: o tmhhscg-cl mostra propriedades psicométricas adequadas incorpo-rando todos os componentes da asm. Isto permitir-nos-á medir o nível de asm a fim de desenvolver inter-venções de prevenção e promoção da saúde mental em estudantes do ensino secundário e universitário.

BACKGROUND: Correctional institution inmates have reduced access to dental care; however, a quantitative assessment of their oral health condition has not yet been performed in South Korea. Therefore, this study aimed to assess dental caries and compare the prevalence of dental caries and associated factors between inmates and the general South Korean population. METHODS: The dental records of two detention centers in South Korea were retrospectively analyzed to assess the clinical oral health condition of inmates using the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) index and self-reported questionnaire. These data were compared with similar data obtained from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) for the general South Korean population. RESULTS: In total, 642 inmates were analyzed and compared with 13,345 KNHANES participants in the KNHANES. The inmate and KNHANES groups demonstrated significant intergroup differences, with a higher prevalence of untreated caries, DMFT, decayed teeth (DT), and missing teeth (MT) values among the inmates. The prevalence of untreated caries decreased according to the history of dental pain in the inmate group but increased in the KNHANES group. The decrease in DMFT with a history of dental pain was significant only in the inmate group. Furthermore, self-rated oral health was significantly associated with prevalence of untreated caries, DMFT, DT, MT, and filled teeth (FT) in the inmate group but with prevalence of untreated caries, DMFT, DT, and MT in the KNHANES group. It was found that this is because there is an interaction effect by the group. CONCLUSIONS: The oral health of the inmate group was significantly poorer than that of the general group. Since DMFT, DT, MT, and FT values and prevalence of untreated caries in the inmate group were significantly related to their self-rated oral health, suggesting that self-rated oral health should be incorporated into the dental health screenings of correctional institution inmates.

BACKGROUND: Medical mistrust can be a barrier to health care utilization. While the Group-Based Medical Mistrust Scale (GBMMS) has been validated among diverse populations, we know little about its psychometric performance among English-Speaking (ES) and Spanish-Speaking (SS) Latinos. We aim to examine the factor structure of GBMMS among Latino parents and explore whether scale latent factor structures would be different across preferred languages. METHODS: Parents of adolescents participating in an urban academic enrichment program for low-income students completed an online survey as part of a cross-sectional study about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) prevention. We tested the validity of the GBMMS in ES and SS respondents and performed exploratory factor analysis to identify latent factors. We examined scale scores, item means, item endorsement, and residual variance across language groups. RESULTS: 2-factor latent structure was identified for both ES and SS groups; factors were labeled as 'Suspicion' and 'System-wide discrimination.' Scale validity was better among SS (α = 0.76). Medical mistrust scores did not vary across language groups, but variation emerged in item endorsement by language. DISCUSSION: Our results suggest that the factor structures of the medical mistrust construct, measured by the GBMMS, are similar across ES and SS Latinos and that the GBMMS is valid for both populations. High factor pattern loading reflects a shared mistrust of how health care systems view and treat people of their racial/ethnic background, independent of their preferred languages. Measurement of medical mistrust and identifying its underlying causes are needed within diverse populations to fully address structural- and community-level influences on health inequities.

AIM: To investigate the relationship between cytokine profiles and "fast" and "slow" patterns of gingival inflammation development. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-two adults participated in an experimental gingivitis study, comprising a 2-week hygiene phase (clinical examination and professional cleaning); a 3-week induction phase (absence of oral hygiene); and a 2-week resolution phase (re-establishment of oral hygiene). Plaque and gingival inflammation scores were assessed. Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), interleukin (IL)-1ß, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p70, IL-13, and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) from gingival crevicular fluid were collected and measured by multiplex ELISA. Group-based-trajectory-modelling (GBTM) was used to model cytokine profiles over the induction phase. The effect of gingival inflammation on cytokine levels over time was estimated with mixed-effects modelling. RESULTS: GBTM analysis revealed two cytokine profiles, "non-organized response" (IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12, and IL-13) and "organized response" (IL-2, IL-10, and TNF-α). Among the "slow" responders, neither cytokine profile was associated with gingivitis. In contrast, a "fast" response was associated with a higher "non-organized response" factor (coef. 0.14) and a lower "organized response" factor (coef. -0.03). CONCLUSION: A "fast" gingivitis development was associated with a higher "non-organized response" and a lower "organized response", which may elucidate the role of individual variability in gingivitis susceptibility.

This study examines the item and dimension distribution and factorial reliability and validity of the GM@W questionnaire for assessing the 13 dimensions of the work environment outlined in The Canadian National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (The Standard). Methods An internet survey of 1,006 Ontario workers was conducted between February 10th and March 5th, 2020. Respondents had to be employed in a workplace with five or more employees. The survey included the 65 items from the GM@W questionnaire, and questions to assess sociodemographic characteristics and employment arrangements. Analyses examined the distribution of scores for items and for overall dimensions. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) examined the relationship between the 13 proposed dimensions and each of the 65 questions, using only respondents with complete information (N = 900). Results Low levels of missing responses were observed, although 14 of the 65 items had potential ceiling effects. CFA analyses demonstrated poor fit for the conceptual model linking the 13 dimensions of The Standard to the 65-items. High correlations between dimensions were also noted. The GM@W questionnaire displayed poor discriminant in measuring the specific dimensions proposed in The Standard. Conclusions Our results suggest the GM@W survey is unable to isolate the proposed dimensions of the psychosocial work environment as outlined in The Standard. These limitations are important, as workplaces using the GM@W survey will not be able to identify dimensions of the work environment which require attention or assess changes in particular dimensions over time.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Parenting Scale in a large sample of Spanish mothers. DESIGN AND METHODS: A two-stage cross-sectional study of the adaptation and cultural validation of the Parenting Scale in a Spanish-speaking environment. In Stage I, the Parenting Scale was translated and back-translated and its semantic, linguistic and contextual equivalence was assessed. In Stage II, the Spanish-language version was validated after its application to 662 Spanish mothers with healthy children aged between 2 and 7 years. Several factor structure models of the Parenting Scale were compared by confirmatory factor analysis. Convergent validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability were also examined. RESULTS: The model of Irvine et al. (1999) presented the best fit to our data. This model demonstrated adequate reliability (internal consistency and stability). The total score and each factor of the Parenting Scale correlated positively with perceived stress in mothers, difficulties in mother-child bonding and child hyperactivity, and negatively with child prosocial behavior. CONCLUSIONS: The Spanish version of the Parenting Scale is a valid and reliable measure that can be used by healthcare professionals and scientists to assess dysfunctional parenting in Spanish mothers of children aged 2 to 7 years. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: This study will allow the use of the Parenting Scale in epidemiological and cross-cultural studies in a variety of applied contexts. Additionally, health professionals who work with families in Spain will have access to a valid and reliable instrument for the assessment of mothers' parenting styles.

Our aim is to culturally adapt the first section of the Patient Continuity of Care Questionnaire (PCCQ) for use among older Italian patients with chronic diseases and to test its psychometric properties. The PCCQ was translated, adapted to the Italian context, and completed by 236 older inpatients with chronic diseases at the point of discharge through a cross-sectional multi-centre validation study. Face and content validity were assessed. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with Mplus MLr estimator was conducted. Internal consistency was analysed through Cronbach's alpha and factor score determinacy coefficients. The overall content validity index of the 15-item Italian version of the questionnaire was 0.9. The EFA revealed a four-factor model yielding adequate fit indices. The factor score determinacy coefficients ranged from 0.87 to 0.94. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranged from 0.71 to 0.86 showing good reliability. The study provides health professionals with an instrument with adequate psychometric properties to assess patients' perception of the information received before hospital discharge.

OBJECTIVE: This multicentre study aimed to develop a measure of the perception of care dependence in patients diagnosed with cancer and to test its psychometric properties. METHODS: The questionnaire was developed based on findings emerged from a meta-synthesis and from qualitative studies conducted in three hospitals in Italy. The draft questionnaire was tested for face and content validity and pilot-tested with patients. The questionnaire was completed by care-dependent patients with cancer. Test-retest was conducted to verify stability. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed using a Maximum Likelihood robust estimator. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The Scale-Content Validity Index was 0.92. The final 15-item questionnaire was completed by 208 patients admitted to two hospitals. The EFA yielded a two-factor model including a positive and a negative perception of care dependence. Factor score determinacy coefficients, Cronbach's alpha coefficients, composite reliability coefficients and Intraclass Correlations Coefficients yielded satisfactory results confirming internal consistency and stability. The hedonic balance score is also available as a single indicator of subjective well-being. The study provides initial validation of the Care DEeP Questionnaire that can be used by cancer nurses to assess positive and negative patient experiences with care dependence and to personalise and improve their care.

OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to translate and determine the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Compassionate Care Assessment Tool (CCAT) ©. METHODS: The study was carried out to translate and validate of the CCAT©. After securing permission from the designer of the tool and translating it, the psychometric properties were determined through examining face validity, construct validity, internal consistency, and test/retest reliability. With regard to construct validity, confirmatory factor analysis was used so that 300 patients in internal and surgery wards were selected by a simple random sampling method from three hospitals. Data were analyzed using SPSS (v.24.0) and LISREL statistical software version 8.8. RESULTS: The results of the confirmatory factor analysis supported the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the CCAT© and its four factors. The reliability of the tool and internal consistency were confirmed through test/retest method with two weeks' interval. At the two areas of importance and provision of compassionate care, Cronbach's α coefficient equaled to 0.918 and 0.933 and intraclass consistency equaled to 0.848 and 0.907 respectively. CONCLUSION: The results showed that the Persian version of the CCAT© was adequately valid and reliable for Iranian patients. Given the acceptable psychometric parameters of the tool, using it in future studies to measure importance and provision of compassionate nursing care to Iranian patients at internal and surgery wards is recommended.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a scale to measure nursing students' readiness for the flipped classroom in Sri Lanka. METHODS: A literature review provided the theoretical framework for developing the Nursing Students' Readiness for Flipped Classroom (NSR-FC) questionnaire. Five content experts evaluated the NSR-FC, and content validity indices (CVI) were calculated. Cross-sectional surveys among 355 undergraduate nursing students from 3 state universities in Sri Lanka were carried out to assess the psychometric properties of the NSR-FC. Principal component analysis (PCA, n=265), internal consistency (using the Cronbach α coefficient, n=265), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA, n=90) were done to test construct validity and reliability. RESULTS: Thirty-seven items were included in the NSR-FC for content validation, resulting in an average scale CVI of 0.94. Two items received item level CVI of less than 0.78. The factor structures of the 35 items were explored through PCA with orthogonal factor rotation, culminating in the identification of 5 factors. These factors were classified as technological readiness, environmental readiness, personal readiness, pedagogical readiness, and interpersonal readiness. The NSR-FC also showed an overall acceptable level of internal consistency (Cronbach α=0.9). CFA verified a 4-factor model (excluding the interpersonal readiness factor) and 20 items that achieved acceptable fit (standardized root mean square residual=0.08, root mean square error of approximation=0.08, comparative fit index=0.87, and χ2/degrees of freedom=1.57). CONCLUSION: The NSR-FC, as a 4-factor model, is an acceptable measurement scale for assessing nursing students' readiness for the flipped classroom in terms of its construct validity and reliability.

BACKGROUND: Out-of-hours (OOH) services in Italy provide >10 million consultations every year. To the authors' knowledge, no data on patient safety culture (PSC) have been reported. AIM: To assess PSC in the Italian OOH setting. DESIGN & SETTING: National cross-sectional survey using the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire - Ambulatory Version (SAQ-AV). METHOD: The SAQ-AV was translated into Italian and distributed in a convenience sample of OOH doctors in 2015. Answers were collected anonymously by Qualtrics. Stata (version 14) was used to estimate Cronbach's alpha, perform exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, correlate items to doctors' characteristics, and to do item descriptive analysis. RESULTS: Overall, 692 OOH doctors were contacted, with a 71% response rate. In the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), four factors were identified: Communication and Safety Climate (14 items); Perceptions of Management (eight items); Workload and Clinical Risk (six items); and Burnout Risk (four items).These four factors accounted for 68% of the total variance (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin [KMO] statistic = 0.843). Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.710-0.917. OOH doctors were often dissatisfied with their job; there is insufficient staff to provide optimal care and there is no training or supervision for new personnel and family medicine trainees. Service managers are perceived as distant, with particular issues concerning the communication between managers and OOH doctors. A large proportion of OOH doctors (56.8%) state that they do not receive adequate support. CONCLUSION: These findings could be useful for informing policies on how to improve PSC in Italian OOH service.

Objective: ADHD is one of the most frequent neurodevelopmental disorders. In addition to clinical assessment, its diagnosis requires the use of validated and reliable behavior questionnaires such as the Conners' Parent Rating Scale-Revised: Short Form (CPRS-R:S). Though various French versions of the CPRS-R:S have been already put to use in clinical practice and research, only a few have undergone a stringent validation process. After a previous validation of the factorial structure of Lausanne French version, we sought here for the analysis of its invariance across sex and age. Method: This validation step was carried out in a rather homogeneous French population of 365 boys and 374 girls from a single school. Two-age classes were considered: children (boys and girls) aged 9 to 11 years (n = 258) and adolescents aged 12 to 15 years (n = 481). Results: Regarding age, dimension Oppositional showed a strong invariance whereas dimensions Hyperactivity and Cognitive problems/Inattention showed a partially strong invariance. Regarding sex, dimensions Oppositional and Hyperactivity showed a partially strong invariance whereas dimension Cognitive problems/Inattention showed a partially weak invariance. The distribution of the CPRS-R:S scores is given by sex and age class. Conclusion: The Lausanne French version of the CPRS-R:S, already validated regarding its factorial structure, internal consistency, and reliability, is here validated regarding its invariance across sex and age. Caution should be taken in using dimension Cognitive problems/Inattention in comparisons between boys and girls.

OBJECTIVES: The Care Dependency Scale is a theory-based, comprehensive tool widely used in low-intensity care settings to evaluate patients' dependency. This study aimed to test the psychometric properties of the Care Dependency Scale in intensive care units. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY/DESIGN: A multicentre cross-sectional validation study was conducted. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed using a Maximum Likelihood robust estimator with Geomin oblique rotation. SETTING: Adult patients admitted to intensive care units of four Italian hospitals. RESULTS: The sample included 453 patients (mean age = 68 years, 62% male). The exploratory factor analysis, conducted on a subsample of 227 patients, revealed a two-factor structure (Physical care dependency and Psychosocial care dependency) with good fit indexes. The confirmatory factor analysis was conducted on another subsample of 226 patients and a second-order factor was specified. The model tested yielded adequate fit indexes. Concurrent and known-groups validity, and reliability, were also adequate. CONCLUSION: The Care Dependency Scale is a multidimensional, valid and reliable tool able to assess the care dependency of critically ill patients. It can help to distinguish between physical and psychosocial needs and to create a base for patient-customised and holistic care.

ABSTRACT Objective: to propose a structural model of active ageing among elderly community members based on the World Health Organization's theoretical framework and to identify the most relevant determinants of active ageing to the proposed model. Methods: a cross-sectional and analytical study conducted with 957 elderly community members. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were performed. Results: the final measurement model was composed of the six determinants of active ageing: behavioral (R²=0.66); personal (R²=0.74); physical environment (R²=0.70); social (R²=0.77); economic (R²=0.44); and social and health services (R²=0.95). The last one showed good quality of adjustment: χ2/gl=3.50; GFI=0.94; CFI=0.92; TLI=0.90; RMSEA=0.05. By analyzing the trajectories between determinants and active ageing, the most representative was social and health services  active ageing (λ=0.97; p<0.001). Conclusion: satisfaction with access to health services and positive self-assessment of health status were the factors that most contributed to active ageing in this population.


RESUMEN Objetivo: proponer un modelo estructural de envejecimiento activo entre los miembros de la comunidad de ancianos basado en el marco teórico de la Organización Mundial de la Salud e identificar los determinantes del envejecimiento activo que son más relevantes para el modelo propuesto. Métodos: estudio transversal y analítico, realizado con 957 adultos mayores de la comunidad. Se realizaron análisis factoriales confirmatorios y modelos de ecuaciones estructurales. Resultados: el modelo de medición final compuesto por los seis determinantes del envejecimiento activo: conductual (R²=0.66); personal (R²=0,74); ambiente físico (R²=0.70); social (R²=0.77); económico (R²=0.44); y servicios sociales y de salud (R²=0.95), que mostraron buena calidad de ajuste: χ2/gl=3.50; GFI=0,94; CFI=0,92; TLI=0.90; RMSEA=0.05. En el análisis de las trayectorias entre los determinantes y el envejecimiento activo, el más representativo fue el de los servicios sociales y de salud aging  envejecimiento activo (λ=0.97; p<0.001). Conclusión: la satisfacción con el acceso a los servicios de salud y la autoevaluación positiva del estado de salud fueron los factores que más contribuyeron al envejecimiento activo en esta población.

Métodos: estudo transversal e analítico, conduzido com 957 idosos comunitários. Realizou-se Análise Fatorial Confirmatória e Modelagem de Equações Estruturais. Resultados: o modelo de medida final composto pelos seis determinantes do envelhecimento ativo: comportamentais (R²=0,66); pessoais (R²=0,74); ambiente físico (R²=0,70); sociais (R²=0,77); econômicos (R²=0,44); e serviços sociais e de saúde (R²=0,95), apresentou boa qualidade de ajuste: χ2/gl=3,50; GFI=0,94; CFI=0,92; TLI=0,90; RMSEA=0,05. Na análise das trajetórias entre os determinantes e o envelhecimento ativo, a mais representativa foi serviços sociais e de saúde  envelhecimento ativo (λ=0,97; p<0,001). Conclusão: a satisfação com o acesso aos serviços de saúde e a autoavaliação positiva do estado de saúde foram os fatores que mais contribuíram com envelhecimento ativo nessa população.

Resumo Este estudo analisou as propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira do Questionário sobre Conhecimento de Doenças Sexualmente Transmissíveis (STD-KQ). Participou uma amostra de conveniência de 429 estudantes de uma universidade pública brasileira. A análise fatorial exploratória sugere uma estrutura com um fator (variância explicada = 61,1%; eigenvalue = 7,2), sendo corroborada pela análise confirmatória (Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0,04; Comparative Fit Index = 0,91; Tucker-Lewis Index = 0,90; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual = 0,05). Cinco itens apresentaram carga menor que 0,30 e por isso foram excluídos. O instrumento demonstrou consistência interna (confiabilidade composta = 0,97; alfa de Cronbach = 0,83) e estabilidade temporal (correlação de Pearson = 0, 86; kappa = 0,16) para um curto período. O conhecimento significativamente variou conforme a idade, o sexo e o curso. Concluindo, o presente estudo destaca as satisfatórias propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira do STD-KQ em estudantes universitários.


Abstract This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Sexually Transmitted Disease Knowledge Questionnaire (STD-KQ). A convenience sample of 429 students of a Brazilian public university participated in the study. Exploratory Factor Analysis suggested one factor solution (variance explained = 61.1%, eigenvalue = 7.2), confirmed by the confirmatory analysis (Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.04; Comparative Fit Index = 0.91; Tucker-Lewis Index = 0.90; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual = 0.05). Five items feature charges less than 0.30 and wer eliminated. The instrument demonstrated internal consistency (Composite reliability = 0.97; Cronbach's alpha = 0.83) and temporal stability (Pearson correlation = 0.86; kappa = 0.16) over a brief period. The knowledge significantly varies by age, sex and course of study. In conclusion, this study highlights the satisfactory psychometric proprieties of the Brazilian version of STD-KQ in university students.
